Former Insurance and Investment Advisers Association president Ian Clark has been appointed honary treasurer and assistant secretary of the Asia Pacific Life Insurance Council (APLIC).
Clark is the first New Zealander to be appointed to the management committee of the association. As such he is assured to become APLIC president in several years time.
The association holds a conference every two years and at that stage people on the management committee move up a rung until they reach the position of president.
APLIC represents associations in nine Asia/Pacific countries including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia. Its conference in Hong Kong attracted 8000 delegates and the next in Thailand in two years time is expected to have 10,000 delegates.
The APLIC management committee is due to met in Queenstown in March.
