AMP chairman Ian Burgess and four other directors have resigned from the board of the Australasian financial services company.
Burgess's resignation comes just four weeks after he vowed to fight on in the face of widespread criticism over AMP's disastrous takeover of GIO Australia.
Stan Wallis, a senior member of the board and chairman of Coles Myer and Amcor, will act as caretaker for at least the next six months.
Other directors to quit are Professor Adrienne Clarke, Tim Crammond, Bruce Kean and Kerry Roberts.
Seven people have left AMP's board in the past three weeks.
