Affordability study findings due this week
Sunday 20th of August 2006
"Obviously land supply is an issue that's been raised, as a possible reason for that, and the government is looking at that."
The findings of one such research project will be announced on Friday this week. The key finding out of that report will be that while there are legislative flaws, there are issues with "the choices communities are making in terms of freeing up land for new housing, protecting agricultural areas and green spaces and so on".
"It's the age-old conflict really."
The research relates particularly to Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough, where there's been a 70% increase in house prices. Further reports due at the end of the year will focus on the Auckland situation.
