BNZ's home loan airpoints scheme grounded

Thursday 19th of March 2015

The bank has confirmed it is ending its rewards partnership with Air New Zealand from the end of April.

From May customers will receive $1 for every Airpoint they would have earned under the scheme.

BNZ Director of Retail Banking and Marketing, Craig Herbison, says borrowers can fly or buy as they choose, or use that to reduce their debt.

"This is about being good with money,” he says.

Herbison said GlobalPlus was ground-breaking when it launched almost two decades ago, "but our customers are changing and so are we. They’re looking for freedom of choice in the rewards and recognition they receive."

BNZ continues to provide customers with rewards through its partnership with Fly Buys.

"but our customers are changing and so are we. They’re looking for freedom of choice in the rewards and recognition they receive." That is an interesting comment. I don't recall BNZ once asking me if I wanted to stop receiving AirPoints. They simply advised me in a mailout.

Hey Muggins, Was talking to an ANZ bus. manager today. They just launched a switch campaign targeting people like you. A year without fees plus you get a hundred airpoints.
