Building consent trends steady

residential buildings, the value of consents issued in January 2006 is down $36 million (6.7%) from January 2005. Consents were issued for 1,900 dwelling units in January 2006, just two more than were authorised in January last year. There were 328 apartment units authorised in January 2006, compared with 615 in December and 166 in November. The trend for the number of new dwelling authorisations is relatively stable, following a decline from the high level of 2003 to 2004.
