Code Committee extends submission deadline

Wednesday 11th of November 2009

The Code Committee has announced it is willing to extend the deadline for submissions on its Proposed Minimum Standards of Competence, Knowledge and Skills for Authorised Financial Advisers, for those struggling under the weight of current industry consultations.

However, submitters must contact the committee to request the extension.

In a statement released late on Tuesday afternoon, the committee said it was aware that several consultation processes are currently underway that involve the financial advice sector. In the interests of good consultation, those submitters needing more time could therefore, seek an extension to 5pm, November 27.

"Only those who have requested and received an extension will be permitted to make submissions after 5pm, 13 November 2009," it says.

Those wishing to seek an extension can contact the Code Committee at consultation@financialadvisercode.govt.nz. Individuals or organisations that have already made submissions, but would like to add to them, can also request an extension.

I don't wish to discourage contributors, however I would strongly suggest that contributions are measured, as much of the outcomes have already been pre-determined. It is sound PR practice to invite industry contributions when invoking change, as this tends to provide a useful response to future industry gripes.
