Wednesday 7th of August 2002

Organisation for this year's Financial Planner of the Year Awards is progressing well with sponsors lining up to support the prestigious event.

The Awards, to be held at the Sheraton Hotel on November 13, will be the third Awards hosted by Good Returns.

As with previous Awards, entry will require a 600 word 'Case for the Award' demonstrating how the entrant has met a wide range of criteria including

  • competence,
  • professionalism,
  • communication skills,
  • knowledge of current issues,
  • input to the profession
  • marketing ability
  • career achievements
  • extra curricular contributions to the community

Submissions must also include a recent plan for an existing client together with a testimonial from that client.

Aspiring winners might like to start working on their submissions as they will be due in late September. Official entry forms will soon be available. You can request an entry form by emailing awards@goodreturns.co.nz.

The Awards are run by Good Returns and final judging is done by a three member panel which last year included Reserve Bank acting governor Rod Carr, Retirement Commissioner Colin Blair and financial journalist Mary Holm.

Last year's winner New Zealand Financial Planning co-founder Jordi Garcia, has been in the industry since 1987 and has built up a successful business.

He originally started with IPD Securities and in 1992 co-founded New Zealand Financial Planning Group with Greg Moyle.

The judges were impressed with his maturity and his relationship with clients.

The awards are designed to promote financial planning and highlight excellence and professionalism within the industry.

Runner up last year was Fiona Judd of Broadbase Waikato and third place went to Graham Baker of Spicers Portfolio Management in Hamilton.

The three finalists also had to do a final interview with the judging panel.

Previous winners are ineligible for the Award this year.

Last year the Awards are sponsored by: ING, AXA New Zealand, Guardian Trust Financial Services and Royal & SunAlliance, Perpetual Investments, Tower Managed Funds and Morningstar.
