Digs for homeless

The claim comes as Auckland City Council looks for ways to help homeless people in the inner-city. Homeless numbers are predicted to grow as the central business district expands.

Wilf Holt, Auckland City Mission crisis care team leader, says there is a shortage of supervised accommodation offering people support to get used to life away from the streets.

Mr Holt says central and local government need to do more to ensure safe, low-cost housing is available for people ready to move on.
