Economic data shows Dunedin still growing

Figures released by the Dunedin City Council showed gains in all economic indicators.

Council strategy and development general manager Peter Brown described the data as "a good result", but said it showed both the Dunedin and the national economy had eased off from recent highs.

The data was collected by Statistics New Zealand during March last year, but analysed in January this year to produce annual regional production figures.

In employment, there was an increase of 922 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs during the year, 2 per cent higher than 2003.

Last year, though, was the first time in five years Dunedin's employment growth was slower than the national average, which had a 3.1 per cent rise.
