Green light for $20m spa resort

Tuesday 23rd of March 2004
The three-level Orange Grove Spa will have 54 rooms, two restaurants seating 85 and 40 people, saunas, fitness centres, an indoor pool, a heated 25m lap-pool and eight treatment rooms.

Construction is expected to start in the next few months and it should open by the middle of next year.

Developer Rainer Hoehn – who founded the award-winning Puka Park Lodge and sold that in 2001 – is seeking investors to buy suites and have them managed by the resort. He has sold seven already.

The Orange Grove Spa bought the land off Hopper Developments for $1.2 million.

The development is the latest to be started on the Coromandel Peninsula with the $85 million Lakes Resort Pauanui – the brainchild of former Aucklanders Gary and Angie MacDougall – currently being built.
