Household Spending Fuels Strong Economic Growth

In the March 2004 quarter, higher consumer spending, increased investment in residential housing, increased business investment and a lift in exports all contributed to the rise in economic activity. Internal demand has been buoyant over the last 12 months and is now 8.3 percent higher in the March 2004 quarter than in the same quarter of the previous year.
