Accuro introduces new benefits

Wednesday 4th of September 2013

Sales and marketing general manager Kelleigh Aston said a number of suggestions from advisers had been implemented in the product changes.

Its new hospice benefit pays for extra nights after the first three consecutive nights of admission, for people covered by its SmartCare and SmartCare + policies.

It will also now reimburse medical costs for non-acute conditions that are incurred and treated in Australia under its SmartCare + policy.

The amount reimbursed will be the normal charges payable in New Zealand and will be subject to the conditions described in the policy.

The “second opinion” consultation addresses a situation where a member has received a diagnosis or treatment plan from a registered medical specialist but wants a second opinion. Under the new benefit, they can seek the opinion from an alternative specialist up to a maximum of $4000 per annum.

This benefit is available through SmartCare, SmartCare+, StaffCare and StaffCare+ specialist plans.

The health insurer will also increase the cover for minor surgery in all of its healthcare plans, pregnancy cover will double for SmartCare + members and cover for non-Pharmac chemotherapy drugs will increase from $5000 to $10,000 for employees with StaffCare+ cover.
