PAA sorry for launch invitation

Thursday 28th of April 2016

The direct marketing email was promoting product launches throughout the country as part of Partner Life's 5th birthday celebrations

It provoked the ire of some PAA members.

"Am I right in saying it's somewhat a conflict the PAA promoting a providers product launch?" one member said.

"I think it’s a disgrace especially after the recent appalling communication from [PAA chief executive] Rod Severn, 'I'm disappointed'.

"Maybe the PAA believes Partners Life has a better chance of drawing a crowd so let’s go along for the ride?"

Severn was upfront about the mistake and said they do make an effort to assist with communication to members on upcoming events.

"The PAA believes that all members should keep up to date with product development relative to the discipline they specialise in. However, please be advised that this type of communication will not be sent to members in the future, as this contravenes the associations stance regarding impartiality and neutrality, and that the board have made it clear that the PAA membership database is not to be used for the purpose of general invitations of this nature," he wrote.

"Please accept my apologies for any misinterpretation that this may have caused."

I did not see the invite as something being 'promoted by the PAA'. I think it is essential associations notify their members of events like product launches, CPD training etc. Shame on the small minded who complained, clearly advancing adviser knowledge and client best interests are not important to them!
