Southern Cross gets approval for critical illness
The resolution clarified that Southern Cross could offer insurance benefits other than just payment or reimbursement of treatment costs.
Southern Cross chief executive of health insurance Peter Tynan says the first new product it will offer is critical illness cover to be introduced before 1 April, 2010.
He says the Southern Cross Medical Care Society is a unique, membership driven, not-for-profit insurer focused on delivering value to members.
"Our research of members indicates they have a very wide range of products and services they would buy from us if available.
"What we need to do is go through that list and see if each one is feasible and if we are able to offer it while maintaining the value equation."
