Invercargill's rental housing shortage

Social agencies and property watchdogs yesterday predicted the city's already tight rental scene would get even tighter as the market attracted new demand and as investors set ever-increasing rents.
The basic rules of supply and demand had forced rents to a six-year high. Three-bedroom properties in Windsor that rented for as low as $130 in 1998 were now going for between $200 and $250. Two-bedroom properties in South Invercargill that used to realise $130 were now getting $145, she said.
