Landlords win court dispute to charge tenants for water services

Until now, landlords have charged tenants for water but the Tenancy Tribunal has prevented them charging for wastewater.
Auckland District Court Judge Graham Hubble has ruled that landlords can charge tenants for water and wastewater services.
But landlords' delight at the "commonsense" ruling might be short-lived. The Government has drafted a law that would settle the longstanding issue by making tenants liable for water and landlords liable for wastewater charges.
