Half a decade of interest rate movements

Friday 18th of December 2009

Long-term interest rates have remained fairly consistent over the past five years in comparison to variable and short-term rates.

As the above graph illustrates, four and five-year rates have risen nearly one percent in the past year since they were at their lowest in 2008. Whereas the variable rate has dropped over 4 1/2 percent since its peak, in the past five years, in 2007.
