ASB watching robotics development

Monday 19th of September 2016

ASB says it is monitoring its Australian parent’s development of social robotics.

CBA innovation solutions manager Will Judge told the Xerocon South conference that the bank’s innovation lab was experimenting with Chip, a humanoid service robot the bank bought for A$300,000.

He said the trend for having robots doing tasks that previously were the domain of humans was spreading into the wider corporate world.

ASB did not rule out the possibility that the technology could come to New Zealand, too.

“ASB has a proud history of innovation and solving customer problems using technology. Our innovation lab works closely with CBA’s, and we leverage capabilities where it makes sense. CBA’s social robotics research and its connections with leading academics in this space is something we will be keeping a close eye on,” a spokeswoman said.
