ING wins top awards

Wednesday 7th of March 2007
The company picked up sector awards in the fixed interest, property and multi-sector categories.

Morningstar head of research Anthony Serhan said ING was the clear winner of the fund manager of the year awards, and credited much of the sucess to ING's people.

"(ING chief investment officer) Philip Houghton Brown and his team had another strong year in 2006, with impressive contributions from across the asset classes delivering quality outcomes to investors in ING's funds."

"Wins in the multi-sector, fixed interest and property categories and finalist placings in the domestic and international equities made ING the standout frontrunner in the overall fund manage of the year title."

"They deserved to win. They have done better things in more asset classes than anybody else," Serhan says. "They employ great people over the range of asset classes."

Serhan said that competition for the fund manager of the year award was increasing and the difference between the other two finalists, Tower and AMP Capital, and the next thee managers was minimal.

He suggested would be more difficult for ING to scoop the top award for three consecutive years.

"Moving forward they are going to face more competition," Serhan says.

Fund Managers Canterbury won the mortgage category, while Tower took international shares and Fisher Funds New Zealand shares.
