Thursday 20th of June 2024

Middleton, who was aged 59, had more than 30 years of experience in the funds management industry and was CEO of the Auckland-based investment firm for more than eight years.

He was known for his wealth of knowledge in New Zealand funds management businesses covering investment management, wealth management and portfolio management.

Before running CFML, Patrick Middleton consulted to the rural and financial services sectors. Across his time in financial services he held a number of executive management positions. In 2009 he joined Perpetual Group as chief operating officer before taking the top role two years later. He led the group through the tragedy of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, which collapsed the Pyne Gould Corporation Building, in which Perpetual’s Christchurch office was based, killing ten staff members.

Prior to Perpetual he was head of wealth management at Westpac NZ and also worked a stint as head of advisory group Spicers Portfolio Management (NZ).

He held an MBA from Henley Management College in the UK and regularly contributed articles to the media.

A funeral service will be held at Christ’s College Chapel, Christchurch on Wednesday June 26.
