Residents fight LIM contamination plans

Residents are angry about Auckland City Council plans to mention the problem on LIM (Land Information Memorandum) reports, claiming it would devalue their properties.

They want the council to carry out a full investigation before taking the situation any further.

The meeting was called to reassure residents after revelations that almost 5000 homes across Auckland may be on land containing poisons such as DDT, arsenic and lead left over from previous use for horticulture.

Jeers, questions and angry comments from a crowd of about 200 people dogged speeches from Environment Ministry, council and public health officials.
