State housing units in Timaru under review

Monday 4th of July 2005
Units in the Pages Road/ Usk Street area have been identified as a hot spot for social problems, and the units are currently being reviewed.

Aoraki MP Jim Sutton said he had received a number of concerns from people within the neighbourhood over the years in regard to the units, and had asked Housing New Zealand to take a look at them.

Regional manager southern Garry Williams said they were reviewing the units to see if a better social mix could be found and the units made into a more attractive environment.

However, he said the problems experienced in the area had dropped off and it was more to do with the stigma attached to the area that was stopping people from wanting to move in.
