Swampland proposal draws fire
Wednesday 10th of August 2005
Friends of Oakley Creek is concerned about the plans of Gold Star Insurance to convert four hectares of open space into a residential estate with 83 two-storey townhouses.
Friends spokeswoman Wendy John says the property is important to the flood management of the creek's catchment area and should not be built on.
Nearly 50,000 cubic metres of earth fill is needed to raise the swampland and divert the stream along the site's northern border.
As a result, Oakley Creek will lose about 200 metres of stream habitat.
