Taupo hotel project takes off

Construction is expected to begin early next month, once resource consent is granted, on 40 managed apartments behind the historic Terraces Hotel on the Napier-Taupo Road.
The apartment complex is the second stage of a long-term project to develop the eight-hectare site by owners Terraces Hotel and Resort, a consortium of five Taupo and Auckland investors.
The first stage, completed three months ago, saw the 115-year-old hotel undergo extensive refurbishment at a cost of $3.5 million.
