NZX50 recovers from horror open in volatile trading

The S&P/NZX 50 Index dropped 506.41 points, or 4.9 percent, to 9,826.86, its lowest close since April. Within the index, 48 stocks fell and two rose. Turnover was $278 million.
Volatile trading saw the local index fall as much as 8 percent before clawing back some of those losses once Australian markets opened.
