Your new boss revealed

Wednesday 25th of October 2017

Kris Faafoi will be the new Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister, giving him oversight of the Financial Services Legislation Amendment Bill, which is due for its first reading.

The bill is tipped to only spend four months instead of the usual six in select committee, because an exposure draft has already been revealed.

It is anticipated that it should become law by the middle of next year.

He will also hold the Civil Defence portfolio.

Faafoi was elected as the Member of Parliament for Mana in November 2010 following more than a decade working as a journalist at both TVNZ and the BBC

Labour leader and PM-designate Jacinda Ardern said the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment would function differently to the way it currently did.

Faafoi has been approached for comment.

IFA chief executive Fred Dodds said earlier today he would need to work on developing a relationship with the office of the incoming minister, after working closely with the office of the National Government's minister, Jacqui Dean.

Yep. Change of Government means change of Minister. I've had some dealings with Kris which have all been good. He is very approachable and very level headed.

Shame FSLAB is not important enough to NZ to warrant a minister within Cabinet
