New Zealand shares fell in a global rout as fears over the Turkish economy and its potential threat to the European banking system weighed on risk-sensitive assets and emerging markets in particular. Blue-chip stocks including Fisher & Paykel Healthcare and Fletcher Building declined.

New Zealand shares gained on continued market strength from the weaker Kiwi dollar, led higher by Trade Me Group and A2 Milk Co, while Fonterra Shareholders Fund dropped as its expected final dividend was removed.

Axa Asia Pacific Holdings and its parent Axa SA have signed binding transaction documents with rival wealth manager AMP to sell its New Zealand and Australian businesses for some A$13.3 billion in cash and scrip.
