My client is a leader in the provision of Life and Disability products. They are 100% New Zealand owned, central city based and have a positive company culture envied by most.

They are looking for a very experienced Underwriter (Intermediate to Senior level) to perform at a high level in the role as well as assisting in the training of less senior underwriters where applicable.

The purpose of the position -

To assess risk proposals for all insurance products, offer appropriate terms, and issue policies in accordance with the Organisations policies and procedures ensuring an acceptable level of profitability balanced with a customer focused approach.

Your Tasks will include -

•      Assess files from New Business and obtain further information as required

•      Accept & sign off terms within proposal authorisation limits.

•      Refer cases to the Company Medical Officer as required.

•      Refer cases to Treaty and Facultative Reinsurers to obtain terms and issue reinsurance certificates as  required.

•      Use services of Lifetest /SOS as required.

•      Assist brokers to understand underwriting decisions made to facilitate placement of non-standard business.

•      Provide info to Medical Practitioners in cases of substandard assessments.

•      Answer broker queries regarding Occupation Classifications.

•      Provide broad guidelines and opinions as to likely outcomes for Advisor queries or hypothetical cases as required.

•      Action exchange of medical info between Company & other companies on agreed bases.

•      Ensure all issuable business is completed for each weekly close off.

•      Minimise expenditure on medical fees by Advisor liaison and telephone underwriting where possible.

•      Establish & maintain effective working relationships with reinsurers.

•      Visit and train Advisors as required.

•              Knowledge of underwriting systems, software & processes.
